Pickle Yolk Books is a new independent publishing house based in the New Delhi Capital Region, India. Pickle Yolk Books is driven by our unbridled passion to create picture books in English that make the readers smile, laugh, ponder, reflect and arrive at their own eureka moment. With universal themes and contemporary Indian settings, our books weave childhood’s eclectic patchwork of joys, challenges and personal triumphs. Humour, subtle or overt, remains an underlying given. Pickle Yolk Books started out as a website to get parents and children in India to fall in love with picture books until they decided to take the plunge and create some ourselves. Pickle Yolk Books is proud of our many achievements in these four years of the imprint’s existence. Each of their 10 titles out yet has received awards and nominations at some of the most prestigious literary, trade, industry and popular choice award platforms in India. Their recent title Dance Of The Wild is an international White Raven 2018 while one of our first titles The Unboy Boy is being made into an animation film for children at the Children’s Film Society of India. In 2018 alone, we bagged two stupendous nominations for the Publisher of the Year award across all categories, languages and age groups at two separate national platforms. Between 2017 and the end of 2018, the language rights to six of our titles have been acquired by international and Indian language publishers. Pickle Yolk Books is grateful for the love, appreciation and these occasional pats on our back. Why Pickle Yolk, you may ask. In India, we grew up in the 80s with a popular jingle on television ‘Sunday ho ya Monday, roz khayo ande’ (Eggs every day, Sunday through Monday). My granny’s response to the commercial used to be an acerbic ‘what’s life without some pickle at every meal!’ So here Pickle Yolk Books is with Pickle Yolk Books, an irresistible combination of the two indispensable must-haves. Our books are bit like pickle – tangy, yummy, exciting; a bit yolk-like – enriching, wholesome, all round awesome. Fun, either way. To be devoured daily. Devoured big. With just a few titles occupying the place of pride in our pickle farm, Pickle Yolk Books is , as yet, a baby in the fascinating world of picture books. But Pickle Yolk Books have ideas. They dream big. And there’s a certain madness about us that’s hard to miss. They are nuts about the unpickled egg white too. Hugs to all picture book lovers.
